Hermès blind stamp years

Pick the letter stamped into the leather and the shape around it. The table gives the year; a letter without a shape was used twice, decades apart.

Notes

  • The letters ran A to Z without a shape from 1945 to 1970, A to Z in a circle from 1971 to 1996 and A to R in a square from 1997 to 2014. Since 2015 the letter stands alone and no longer follows the alphabet (T, X, A, C, D, Y, Z, U, B, W, K); each new letter becomes known from bags seen in the new year, so the table cannot be extended ahead of time.
  • 2026 is G as the guides that reach that year report it (Lollipuff, PurseBop, Janefinds); Fashionphile’s and Madison Avenue Couture’s charts stop at 2025.
  • A letter repeats across the eras, so it reads together with the shape and the bag’s period: K is 1955 without a shape, 1981 in a circle, 2007 in a square and 2025 without a shape again.
  • Some pieces from late 2014 carry the R without its square; some 2011 pieces carry the O in a square joined to a J, a workshop mark. Pieces made before 1945 carry no year letter.
  • Where the stamp sits varies by model and era: on the underside of a Birkin’s or Kelly’s strap until 2015 or 2016 (the guides differ on the year), inside the bag since, and elsewhere on other models. The letters and figures beside the year letter are workshop and artisan marks that only Hermès can read.
  • A stamp can fade, lift or be missing, and a stamp can be copied or a component replaced; the guides say so themselves. This table says what year a letter stands for, nothing more.

Sources

Compiled from these published guides; Hermès publishes no table of its own, and where the guides differ the table says so.

Valentina Petkova checked the table against the sources on November 6, 2026.

A code says where and when the house’s workshop marked a piece, as the trade has recorded the codes; it does not say whether a bag is genuine, and Veliri does not authenticate bags. A code the tables do not read says nothing about the bag on its own.
